First Communion Day 9th May 2026

On Saturday 9th May, Mount Anville Primary School celebrated a very special First Communion Ceremony for our 45 First Communicants. Fr. Ciarán Egan, our school chaplain, celebrated the mass, and it was a joyful and memorable occasion for all involved.

The girls were amazing in every aspect of the ceremony. They carried out their roles with great confidence and reverence through their readings, singing, bringing up the gifts, and playing the tin whistle. Everyone present was so proud of how beautifully they participated throughout the service.

Ms Munro, Principal, warmly thanked the class teachers, Ms Sorohan, Ms Falkner and Ms McNeice, for all of their hard work and dedication in preparing the girls for this important sacrament. She also thanked the SNAs Joan, Joanne and Mary who support the classes throughout the year. As a token of appreciation, the parents presented them all with flowers and gifts at the end of the ceremony.

In welcoming the congregation, Ms Munro spoke movingly about how this particular class would always hold a special place in her heart, as this would be her final First Communion Ceremony as Principal of Mount Anville Primary before her retirement.

A special word of thanks was also extended to the 5th and 6th class choir led by Ms Travers and accompanied by Ms McCabe, whose uplifting music added greatly to the ceremony.

This academic year, Mount Anville and all the Sacred Heart schools have been focusing on the Goal of Community. Without the support of our wonderful community, this special day would not have been possible. We would like to thank our secretary Aideen who liaised with Christine in the parish office; the parish team for their support; the sacristan; the ladies who arranged the beautiful altar flowers, and everyone who contributed artwork and helped in so many ways to make the celebration so meaningful.

The sun shone brightly on the day as families and friends gathered to celebrate together. The school looked wonderful, and the White Party afterwards, ably prepared for and organised by the Parents’ Committee, was a great success.

It was truly a fantastic day filled with happiness, pride and celebration for our First Communicants, their friends and their families.
