On Thursday 21st May, both 4th classes from Mount Anville Primary School enjoyed a wonderful and educational trip to Mount Anville House.
The girls were warmly welcomed by Ms McCormack, along with both 4th classes from Mount Anville Montessori Junior School, who gave them a fantastic tour of the house and shared the fascinating history of the Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart schools. The first Sacred Heart school in Ireland was founded in Roscrea, County Tipperary, in 1842. In the entrance hall of the house, there is a large lit-up map of the world showing all the places where the Sacred Heart message has reached.
During the visit, the pupils learned many interesting facts about the history of Mount Anville. They discovered that the house was first owned by William Dargan, an Irish engineer who designed and built Ireland's first railway line from Dublin to Dún Laoghaire in 1834. The Dundrum Luas Bridge is named after him. The girls also learned that Queen Elizabeth planted the tree that stands in front of the house. They were especially excited to hear that Mary Robinson, Ireland’s first female president, attended Mount Anville Secondary School.
The tour was both fun and informative, and the girls greatly enjoyed hearing about the traditions and history connected with Mount Anville. After the tour, everyone enjoyed delicious refreshments of squash and biscuits together.
It was a lovely day filled with learning, history, and friendship, and the girls returned to school having learned so much about the rich heritage of Mount Anville and the Sacred Heart..
