Today was a very exciting day in school as 4th - 6th class cast their votes in our own 'MAPS Election' to tie in with the general election happening today. The girls visited the polling station and gave their polling cards to the student council who marked them off the register of electors. They were then given a ballot paper with all the candidates in the Dublin Rathdown Constituency. All the younger classes were invited to visit the polling station throughout the day.
In preparation for the election, the girls had been learning about the electoral system and other aspects of our political democracy. Many of the candidates also kindly sent in videos for the girls, explaining what issues concern them and asking for their vote.
After all votes were cast, the votes were taken out of the ballot box, and counted in the counting centre. After 5 counts, the 4 available seats had been filled.
Here is a video of the student council announcing the results of the MAPS Election 2024 and some photos from the day!
