World Down Syndrome Day was celebrated in school today. The date for the National Awareness Day, March 21st (21/3), represents the three copies of the 21st chromosome. When examined under a microscope, chromosomes are said to look like brightly coloured socks! People "Rock Your Socks" by wearing brightly coloured, mismatched socks to start conversations about inclusion and diversity and to support the Down Syndrome community.

As an inclusive school that celebrates and values difference, we invited the girls to come to school wearing colourful, mismatched or crazy socks to school today. The Mount Anville Primary School girls arrived this morning wearing all sort of weird and wonderful socks to celebrate the day. At assembly, we were shown how to sign Crazy Sock Day in Lámh (Irish sign language) .

Our qr code is for direct donation to The Down Syndrome Centre in Sandyford, should you wish to contribute. So far, we have raised over a thousand euro.
